Historical Background

The region around Vasylivka has been part of the Zaporozhian Sich since at least the 16th century. The first references to settlements in the area date back to the 1730s, when winter settlements known as 'Kozatski Khutory' emerged along the Konka River.

Following the dissolution of the Zaporozhian Sich in 1775 and the annexation of Crimea in 1783, the area was granted to Vasili Stepanovich Popov, a Russian general, in 1788. He constructed a church dedicated to Saint Basil the Great, which led to the settlement being named Vasylivka. The local population included Zaporozhian Cossacks and serfs from surrounding gubernias.

A notable structure, the Popov Manor House, was established by Popov's grandson and was visited by the educator Anton Makarenko in 1925.

During World War II, Vasylivka was near the German Panther–Wotan line along the Molochna River.
