Early Life
Zlata Leonidivna Ognevich, born Inna Leonidivna Bordiuh on 12 January 1986, initially recorded her birthplace as Murmansk, but later identified Kryvyi Rih as her actual birthplace. She has Italian ancestry from her mother's side and Serbian from her father's side. Ognevich spent her childhood in Sudak, Crimea, and moved to Kyiv at the age of 18 to pursue music education, graduating from Rheingold M. Glière Music College.
Musical Career
Ognevich is a soloist with the Ensemble of Song and Dance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. She first attempted to enter the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010 with 'Tiny Island', finishing fifth, and again in 2011 with 'The Kukushka', where she placed second. Her third attempt in 2013 with 'Gravity' resulted in a third-place finish at the contest held in Malmö, Sweden, where she scored 214 points.
In 2014, she hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and later released a version of Ukraine's national anthem. Ognevich's concert activities included a solo program in 2017 and performances with renowned artists like Andrea Bocelli and Montserrat Caballé.
Political Career
In the 2014 parliamentary elections, Ognevich was elected to the Verkhovna Rada as a non-partisan candidate for the Radical Party. She focused on cultural and copyright issues during her tenure but resigned in November 2015, expressing concerns about the lack of cultural integrity in parliament.
Involvement During Conflict
Following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, Ognevich publicly opposed Russian citizenship for her family residing there. She has actively supported Ukrainian military efforts during the pro-Russian unrest, participating in fundraising initiatives and performing for military personnel.
Recent Activities
In 2023, Ognevich served as the spokesperson for the Ukrainian jury at the Eurovision Song Contest and released the duet 'Bureviiamy', which achieved notable success. She celebrated her fifteenth artistic anniversary with a concert in Kyiv and continued to engage in humanitarian efforts and cultural projects, including voicing a character in the musical film 'Wicked'.
