Historical Development

In April 1930, Ternivka was the site of a quickly suppressed pro-Ukrainian anti-Soviet revolt. The discovery of coal deposits in Ternivka and the nearby village of Bohdanivka occurred in 1950, leading to the establishment of the experimental Ternivska No. 1 mine in the fall of 1953. Initially lacking basic infrastructure, the village saw significant development, including the construction of barracks in 1953 and the introduction of electricity in 1956. By 1961, 8,000 square meters of housing had been constructed, and the first kindergarten was established in 1963. Ternivka was designated as an urban-type settlement in 1964 and subsequently became a city in 1976. By 1990, it was recognized as a city of regional subordination. Following administrative reforms on 18 July 2020, Ternivka's municipality was dissolved, and it was incorporated into Pavlohrad Raion.
