Foundation and Ownership

Renaissance Capital was founded in 1995 by a group of partners including Stephen Jennings, Boris Jordan, Leonid Rozhetskin, Anton Kudryashov, and Richard Deitz. In 2012, it became part of ONEXIM Group, a major private investment holding company in Russia, owned by billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.

Investment Services

The firm provides a comprehensive array of investment banking services, which encompass debt and equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), sales and trading in equity, fixed income, foreign exchange (FX), derivatives, and commodities. As of June 30, 2021, Renaissance Capital reported total assets of $3.62 billion and equity of $476 million, with a net profit of $6.45 million for the first half of 2021.

Renaissance Capital operates in several key markets, with offices in Moscow, London, New York, Lagos, Nairobi, Cairo, and Nicosia. The firm has been active in Africa since 2007, establishing offices in Lagos and Nairobi, and later expanding to Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Cairo. Its Lagos office serves as a hub for West African operations, while Nairobi supports its East African activities.

Major Transactions

Renaissance Capital has facilitated numerous significant capital markets transactions in Russia and other regions. Notable Russian IPOs include Beeline's $127.4 million IPO on the NYSE in November 1996, ALROSA's $1.3 billion IPO in October 2013, and RUSAL's $2.24 billion IPO in January 2010. The firm has also organized key transactions in frontier markets, including a GEL500 million bond issue for Bank of Georgia and a RUB15 billion issue for Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.

Strategic Partnerships

In September 2008, ONEXIM Group acquired a 50% (minus one share) stake in Renaissance Capital for $500 million, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the firm's market position. This partnership culminated in ONEXIM's full ownership of Renaissance Capital in 2013, following the acquisition of additional stakes.
