Halič Castle
The earliest literary reference to Halič Castle dates back to 1450. The village itself was first mentioned in 1299, but the castle was only noted briefly. Constructed without royal approval by magister Tamas from Lučenec, the castle changed hands multiple times, including ownership by the Jiskras and later János Hunyady before King Matthias Corvinus took residence in 1462. In the first half of the 16th century, Istvan Losonczy owned the castle, which he reconstructed without royal consent, suffering damage during a siege in 1544.
Ownership of the castle transitioned to the Forgách family, an ancient Hungarian aristocracy with roots in Great Moravia, who maintained control until 1945. Zsigmond Forgách undertook significant renovations to the castle, enhancing its strategic fortifications. The castle faced multiple sieges, notably by Imre Thököly and later by Ferenc II Rákóczi, resulting in considerable damage.
In 1762, the Forgáchs reconstructed the castle to serve as a representative seat, with renovations overseen by the Austrian architect Andre Meyerhoffer. In 2006, the castle was acquired by a development firm from Košice, which transformed it into a 4-star hotel with a spa.
