Dmytro Oleksandrovych Razumkov is a prominent Ukrainian politician who served as the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada from August 2019 until October 2021 and was the leader of the Servant of the People party. His political career has significantly influenced Ukraine's legislative landscape, particularly during the 2019 parliamentary elections.

Early Life and Education

Dmytro Oleksandrovych Razumkov was born on 8 October 1983 in Berdychiv, Zhytomyr Region, Ukraine. He is the son of Komsomol activist Oleksandr Razumkov and theater actress Natalia Kudri. His father previously served as Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Razumkov has a half-brother, Hlib, who was adopted by Anatoliy Hrytsenko.

Razumkov graduated with honors from the Institute of International Relations at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, earning a degree in International Economic Relations. He also holds a law degree with honors from the National State Tax Service University.

Political Career

Razumkov began his political career as a member of the Party of Regions from 2006 to 2010. He later worked in the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction of Ukraine and served as an assistant to a Member of Parliament. Between 2015 and 2019, he was the managing director of the Ukrainian Politconsulting Group.

In 2019, Razumkov played a critical role as a political advisor in Volodymyr Zelensky's presidential campaign, which resulted in Zelensky's victory. He subsequently became the leader of the Servant of the People party, leading it to secure 124 seats on the nationwide party list and 130 constituency seats in the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary election.

On 29 August 2019, Razumkov was elected as the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, receiving the highest level of support for a candidate in the parliament's history, with 382 votes in favor.

Membership and Dismissal

Razumkov served as a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine from 6 September 2019 until 15 October 2021. He was also involved in various interparliamentary assemblies, enhancing Ukraine's diplomatic ties with neighboring countries.

On 7 October 2021, the Verkhovna Rada voted to dismiss him from his role as Chairman of the Parliament. This decision followed President Zelensky's statement that Razumkov was 'not a member of our team anymore.' Razumkov's relationship with the Servant of the People party deteriorated, leading to his identification as an independent deputy.

Post-Chairmanship Activities

Following his dismissal, Razumkov announced plans to establish a 25-member association of deputies in the Ukrainian parliament, named Smart Politics, which included members from various political factions. He confirmed his intention to create a political party on 16 November 2021.

In January 2022, he founded an NGO called Team Razumkov, which is expected to form the foundation of his new political party.

Personal Life

Dmytro Razumkov is married and has two children. He resides in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Civic Position

Before entering public office, Razumkov often communicated in Russian, reflecting the linguistic diversity in Ukraine. He has publicly stated that the issue of language is secondary to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for unity during wartime.
